‘Computers For Kids – CFK’: A Matanivusi Initiative for Change

April 23, 2018

We are proud to announce the launch of our latest initiative, ‘Computers for Kids’. Matanivusi Beach Eco Resort is dedicated not only to protecting and preserving our beautiful environment through sustainable development, but also to initiating positive change for the local community. With Education sitting close to the hearts of Matanivusi owners Brian & Donna McDonald, it made sense for their energy to be placed there.

“Our goal is to source one computer for every student (212) in our local high school. At the moment there are only 6 computers available for students.”  We are asking every one of our past and future guests, and all interested people to kindly donate their old, used laptops. Everyone has an old one, maybe stored away in a cupboard gathering dust, and we would love you to put it to good use by donating it to help the students of Ratu Latianara College, our local high school.

We ask that the computers be in good, working condition with the charging cords included. Our son Jay of ‘Evolve Technologies’ will service and install the basic software that students need to gain computer skills to further their education; - word processing, spreadsheets and presentations.” – Brian McDonald

During our recent visit to Latianara College, we caught up with Principle Sireli Koroituku, to talk about the impact ‘CFK’ will have on his students.

“We, the student teacher body of Latianara College, deeply appreciate the efforts and care from Matanivusi Beach Eco Resort and its Guests in helping brighten the path for a better education and future for our students. The donation of computers and laptops will greatly assist us with further education and development of ALL of our students - not just those in their final years which the existing 6 computers have been limited to.”  - Sireli Koroituku

If you don’t have an old laptop and would still like to help us in our quest for the education of local students, please consider donating an up-to-date non-fiction book for the school library. The majority of books and computers, currently utilised at the school were donated by Brian from his time working as a Librarian before his resort operator life. Donna also obtained a lot of resources and teaching aids for early childhood education from schools in Australia, from her career as a teacher.

“We have always been passionate about helping with the education of future generations of Fiji. If this sounds like an initiative you would like to be involved in, we would love to hear from you. Please contact info@surfingfiji.com, and help us to make ‘CFK’ a success.” – Brian & Donna McDonald.
